ERP energy consumption

With the help of the Ecodesign Directive, the EU has implemented a comprehensive set of regulations for energy-relevant products on the European market. The aim is to make a significant step forwards in the direction of climate protection and the reduction of CO2 emissions.

This is to be achieved by offering European households the opportunity to purchase products that are, by mandate, energy-saving and therefore climate-protecting, and thus enabling them to not only make their contribution, but to also ease their own finances.
This is associated with comprehensive information campaigns designed to raise the awareness of the end consumer for energy saving topics, enabling both the products themselves, and the modification of consumer behaviour, to contribute towards achieving climate protection targets.

The Ecodesign Directive initially offers a universal framework which defines the conditions under which climate protection targets are to be achieved, as well as concrete specifications regarding the product groups for which energy-efficiency regulations are to be created.
The German Federal Government has incorporated this directive into national law within the framework of the EBPG or Energiebetriebene-Produkte-Gesetz (law on powered products).

The range of affected products was only expanded as of the end of 2009. Previously the term Energy Using Products (EUP) had been used, but the relevance has now been expanded to include product groups that directly or indirectly influence the energy consumption (Energy Related Products = ERP).

Examples of Energy Using Product groups are:

  • Household lighting (separated into directed and undirected light)
  • Office lighting
  • Electro-motors and water pumps
  • Small fireplace options for solid fuels

Examples of Energy Related Product groups are:

  • Sanitary products (e.g. shower heads, fittings)
  • Windows and doors
  • Insulating materials (roof insulation, wall insulation)

For each of the product groups, individual execution directives have been made which contain, especially, technical specifications, plus the labelling of products, and the communication of consumption data to the end consumer.
This is designed to offer the end consumer the ability to inform themselves of the technical characteristics of the product and thus enable comparisons to be made.

The following contains a datasheet with all data regarding performance and consumption for the relevant products of the LUX range.
